The Devon Rex

The Devon Rex is truly one of the most unique and charismatic cat breeds in the world. Often affectionately called the "Pixie Cat", the Devon Rex is instantly recognisable for its oversized ears, expressive eyes, soft curly coat, and mischievous elf-like appearance. While their look is certainly striking, it is their incredible personality that captures hearts. Devon Rex cats thrive on human companionship and want to be involved in absolutely everything their family does.

Known affectionately by owners as "Velcro Cats", Devon Rex's have very little understanding of personal space. If you're looking for a cat that will admire you from across the room, this is not the breed for you! A Devon Rex will supervise your shower from the bathroom sink, sit on your lap while you're on the toilet, curl up in your arms under the blankets at night, and happily ride around on your shoulder while you attempt to complete household chores. Wherever you go, your Devon Rex will almost certainly want to come too.

Highly intelligent, playful, and affectionate, Devon Rex cats retain their kitten-like spirit well into adulthood. In fact, many owners would say they are almost too intelligent for their own good. Their curiosity knows no bounds, and they have an impressive talent for finding themselves exactly where they shouldn't be. Cupboards, drawers, shopping bags, and the highest shelf in the house are all considered fair game by an inquisitive Devon Rex.

Another hallmark of the breed is their enthusiasm for food. Devon Rex cats are notoriously food-motivated, which makes them highly trainable and eager to learn. Many can be taught tricks such as sit, high-five, fetch, and coming when called, often mastering new behaviours surprisingly quickly when treats are involved.

Devon's form exceptionally strong bonds with their families and are happiest when they are the centre of attention. Their combination of affection, intelligence, clown-like antics, and unwavering devotion makes them truly unforgettable companions. At Highglow Devon Rex and Maine Coon Cattery in Dunedin, we are passionate about this extraordinary breed and strive to raise healthy, confident, and well-socialised kittens that embody the playful charm, loving temperament, and delightful mischief that make the Devon Rex so special. ❤️
